RADIOACTIVITY!

There are differences between Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. Alpha is a heavy, short-range particle and is an ejected helium nucleus. This type of radiation cannot penetrate the human skin or clothing. It is harmful if it is inhaled, swallowed, or absorbed in open wounds. A Geiger-Mueller tells whether alpha radioation is present. Alpha radiation can only travel a few inches into the air. On the other hand, Beta radiation is a very light, short-range particle that is an ejected electron. This type of radiation can penetrate the skin where new cells are produced. Clothing can help protect against this radiation. It can also travel several feet into the air. Gamma radiation is a highly penetrating electromagnetic radiation. Gamma can go many inches into the human tissue. Dense materials are needed to help protect someone from this radiation, clothing with not shield a person, but it will prevent the skin from being contaminated by the radioactive materials. This type of radiation can travel many feet into the air.
There are differences between fission and fusion. The main difference is fission is when a LARGE unstabe atoms split into SMALLER atoms to become stable. Fusion is when a SMALL atoms join together to be LARGER, stable atoms.
Nuclear energy has its pros and cons. An advantage would be when coal and oil become scarce nuclear power plants can help supply electricity. Also nuclear power plants do not release contaminants into the environment. The disadvantages og nuclear energy is if the is an explosion, radiation is produced. This is a problem because the radiation harms the body and makes people sick or can kill them. Also nuclear reactors have waste disposal problems. This nuclear waste produces harmful radiation.

Why Chemistry is the Most Important Science

Chemistry is the most important science! Chemistry is the science of matter. Chemistry is used in everyday life. Everything around you is chemistry. Your computer, phone, ipod, hair straightener, and even the piece of paper you use to do your homework on. All of this is important because we use the computer to do homework, chat with firends and family from far away, create blogs, and most importantly find information.
You get sick, don't you? Well, doctors use chemistry to find out how to make the medicine to make you feel better. Without chemistry you would be sick for a much longer time period. Chemistry is always with you and it always will be. That's why chemistry is the most important science.

The Recycling Factory

Dear Mr. Smith,
I have come up with a way to separate the four recycled materials. I know the densities of all of the materials so I can use that to help separate the materials. The first material I will separate is the steel cans because I know that steel is magnetic. I will put all the materials on the conveyor belt which have powerful magnets above it so the steel cans powder will stick to the magnets. This leaves me with 3 other materials. The next material I will find is the milk jugs because its density is less than 1 which is waters density. I will put the rest of the materials in the large tank labeled water and only the milk jug powder will float, its density is 0.95, this is less than 1. The same rule kind of applies to the soda bottles and the concentrated sugar water. The density of the sugar water is 1.5 and the density of the soda bottles is 1.4 which is less than 1.5 meaning the powder of the soda bottles will float. Lastly, the nets at the bottom of the tanks have been catching all the materials that have sunk to the bottom. Since everything but the aluminium soda cans floated all that is left in the nets is the aluminium soda cans powder. That is how I plan on separating the materials.
                          Sincerely, Ramsie Goss
